Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started & Quotations
Do you charge for a home quote? No, our home (or remote) design consultations are completely free and come with no obligation. One of our team members will measure your openings, discuss styles, and provide a transparent, written quote valid for 30 days.
How long does a quote take to prepare? For standard windows and doors, we can often provide a price within 24 to 48 hours. Complex projects, such as large windows or doors or structural alterations, may take 3 to 5 working days to quote accurately.
Planning & Regulations
Do I need planning permission to replace my windows or doors? In most cases, no. If you are replacing windows on a like-for-like basis, it falls under "Permitted Development." However, you will likely need planning permission if: Your property is a Listed Building. You live in a designated Conservation Area (article 4 directions may apply). You are significantly altering the size or shape of the openings.
Do your windows comply with the latest UK Building Regulations? Yes. All of our installations strictly adhere to Document L of the UK Building Regulations, which sets strict targets for insulation and thermal efficiency (measured in U-values).
What are FENSA certificates, and will I get one? FENSA (Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme) is a government-authorized scheme that monitors building regulation compliance for replacement windows and doors. Important: As a FENSA-registered installer, we self-certify the work. Once installation is complete, FENSA will mail you a certificate. You will need this legal document if you ever sell your house.
Energy Efficiency & Materials What is a U-value, and why does it matter? A U-value measures how effective a material is as an insulator. It tells you how much heat is lost through the window or door. The lower the U-value, the better the insulation.
Installation & Aftercare
How long does the actual installation take? As a general rule of thumb, a team of two installers can fit roughly 4 standard windows per day. Replacing a single front or back door typically takes 3 to 4 hours.
Will the installation make a mess? Replacing windows is a construction process, so some dust is inevitable. However, our teams protect your floors and furniture with dust sheets, vacuum the work areas before leaving, and remove all your old windows and debris from the site for recycling.
What guarantees do you offer? We provide a 10-year comprehensive guarantee on all frames and glass units against warping, cracking, and seal failure. Hardware like handles, hinges, and locks typically carry a 5-year mechanical warranty. All guarantees are insurance-backed for your total peace of mind.
